ST. LOUIS – A woman was shot in the chest outside of a Walgreens in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood Monday.

According to Evita Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened just before 2:20 p.m. in the 1400 block of N. Grand Boulevard.

Investigators believe the woman was shot during an attempted carjacking. EMS took the woman to a local hospital. She’s listed in stable condition.

Walgreen’s shoppers told FOX 2 that they looked at Walgreens as a safe place to be, but the incident left them frightened. FOX 2 Elliott Davis contacted Alderman Brandon Bosley whose ward is near the shooting incident.

“Our community is out of control. That is completely nuts to have that happen in broad daylight to a woman,” said Bosley.

Caldwell said the suspect fled on foot.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact St. Louis police or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS. You can be eligible for a cash reward and will remain anonymous.
