Since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, retailers have continued one key tactic: early holiday sales.

Like other retailers, Kohl’s got on the early holiday discount trend this year. The department store kicked off its holiday discounts on Oct. 6, offering Kohl’s Cash and other perks ahead of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping holidays in November. Amazon and Target each introduced their own holiday sales in October. For Target, the Deal Days event drew more foot traffic to its physical stores, a Placer.ai analysis found. 

“This holiday season, we’re meeting our customers where they are – wanting to shop early, and wanting to find deals on all of the top gifts and products of the season,” Ron Murray, Kohl’s interim chief merchandising officer, said in a statement. “With our robust assortment of products and categories that lean into the areas where we’re really seeing our customers gravitate towards, such as outdoor, home, beauty, pet, toys, and apparel, we’re confident that Kohl’s will be a key destination for all of their holiday needs.”

Kohl’s began to streamline its holiday operations back in August, when it announced an expansion of its self-pickup service. That service will be available for select purchases at more than 1,100 stores across the country, enabling shoppers to pick up their items in-store and skip lines. 

Additionally, after opening multiple Sephora shop-in-shop locations, Kohl’s has integrated the beauty retailer into its holiday discount plans. In February, the company said it planned to open 400 Sephora shop-in-shop locations this year as it progresses towards its goal of opening 850 Sephora shop-in-shops at its stores by 2023.
